The International Brotherhood of Teamsters each year offers 15 scholarships to encourage studying for son, daughter or financial dependent of a Teamster member. These scholarships are awarded to students who are in their last year of high school or College, and plan to attend an accredited four-year college or university. Overall, five scholarships of $10,000 and ten of $1,000 (in US device) will be awarded.
*This year, the James R. Hoffa Memorial Scholarship Fund distributed $1.2 million in scholarship awards to the sons and daughters of Teamsters in the U.S. and Canada. Next year, 2017, the Fund is committed to distributing $1.4 million, an increase of $200,000.
To obtain an Application Form, please contact the Teamsters Local 879 office in Hamilton by calling (905) 547-3231 or 1-800-528-8879 or visit www.teamsters.org. Once completed, bring the application form to 879’s office(s) and we will take care of it from there.
Each applicant must:
- Be the son, daughter or financial dependent of a Teamster member (hereafter also referred to as “Teamster Member Relation”) who qualifies (or in the case of retirees, has qualified) as a member in “continuous good standing” in the Teamsters Union as defined in Article II, Section 4 of the International Constitution;
- Be in his/her last year of high school and may not apply if he/she has already graduated from high school;
- Be in the top 15% of his/her high school class;
- Plan to attend an accredited four-year college or university. Those who plan to attend non-academic or certificate programs or community college, may not apply.
Please note that the application must be at the International office by March 31st, 2017, so we recommend submitting completed applications to the Secretary-Treasurer two weeks prior to the application deadline.
Applications without activities list or membership verification will not be processed. Please read the application information bulletin attached below.
